| I hadn't logged in a long time for an entry. What do I find? My flooble account was deleted or whatever. So all of those lovely messages you left for me are all gone now. If anyone has any recommendations for another chat box, by all means let me know. I don't want to have to write one of my own. Who has time for that? Thanks!

| On sports-talk radio this morning, I listened to the DJ's debate about how the Lions will fare this season. While it's only June, it was quite welcome to hear some football talk in the middle of the summer doldrums, better known as baseball and golf.
It actually made me wonder how my perpetually shitty Lions will do this year. They supposedly got the best player in the draft in Calvin Johnson. Of course this scenario in the past has made no difference in a playoff run, i.e. Barry Sanders, Andre Ware.
So here are my thoughts:
When I think of how they'll do in a 16-game season, my initial hunch is to say they'll win five games, maybe six. It also wouldn't surprise me if they only won three games. A record of 5-11 seems very realistic though.
Now what happens when I break it down game-by-game. I'm going to find out.
Game 1, at Oakland: Win - Being that the Raiders were the only team worse than the Lions, and they'll be breaking in a new QB, we really should win this game. Having said that, it's on the road and it's the Lions. This game could really display a sign of things to come, especially with a loss.
Game 2, Minnesota: Win - It's the home opener and the Vikings suck. Tarvaris Jackson or Brooks Bollinger will be the QB. Oooooh, scary. To top it off, Artose Pinner is in the backfield. They probably have one of the best O-lines in the game so Adrian Peterson running left behind Steve Hutchinson and Bryant McKinney could be a problem. But it's at home and the opener so I'm giving it to the boys in Honolulu Blue.
Game 3, at Philadelphia: Loss - This is probably a big loss. Donovan McNabb will torch our weak secondary and it's a road game against a really good team.
Game 4, Chicago: Loss - I remember the Lions needing 1 yard for a touchdown and a probable home win. Thanks to a penalty, they had 8 chances do it and failed each time. Typical. Bears defense will prove too strong in this one.
Game 5, at Washington: Loss - The Lions haven't won at the Redskins since it was Jack Kent Cooke Stadium and the Kennedy administration was in office. I don't expect it to change this year either.
Game 6, Tampa Bay: Win - It's a home game and the Bucs really have no proven QB. Chris Sims is coming off internal injuries. Gruden is high on Bruce Gradkowski but the real X factor is former Lion Jeff Garcia. It would be no surprise if he came back to kick our ass ala Joey Harrington. I still think the Lions have enough, in a close one.
Game 7, at Chicago: Loss - It's a road game against a good team and the Lions have no luck at Soldier Field. It may not be freezing cold in October but it won't matter.
Game 8, Denver: Loss - Hopefully, the Lions can make a game of this. It'll definitely be a good draw for the crowd. Maybe Tatum Bell will have something to prove to his old team but I still see this as a loss, probably a big one.
Game 9, at Arizona: Win - If there is one team that has been perpetually as bad as the Lions, it's the Cardinals. Granted, they have a better young nucleus than us, so maybe this is a stretch, but it's a game we could win.
Game 10, New York: Win - The Giants are so full of turmoil that a loss in Detroit is highly possible. Also a fragile team, I expect they'll have some major injuries by this point. Replacing Tiki Barber will prove harder than expected too.
Game 11, Green Bay: Win - This is the Thanksgiving game, a game the Lions usually win. Favre is also mediocre at best in a dome. Four days off for both teams could make this an ugly one. Ugliest team wins and who is uglier than the Lions?
Game 12, at Minnesota, Loss - By this point in the year, I expect Adrian Peterson to leading the way as Rookie of the Year. They'll have a more cohesive unit than the first meeting and will handle the Lions at home.
Game 13, Dallas, Win - The Lions beat them to end the regular season and cost them the No. 1 pick in the draft. I suspect the same thing will happen and cost the Lions another top 3 pick in the draft.
Game 14, at San Diego, Loss - What will keep this from being a blow out is the Chargers will want to rest their starters and keep them healthy for a Super Bowl run. Lions still lose.
Game 15, Kansa City, Win - Even without Trent Green, Damon Huard showed enough skill to manage the Chief's offense. That will surely be enough to handle the Lions. Can Huard last the whole season? Probably not. This could be a real close one. The Lions seem to pull these off at the end of the year too. Can you tell I'm wafting.
Game 16, at Green Bay, Loss - Lambeau Field on December 30 to close out another crappy season is not a good recipe for the Lions. The frozen tundra will beat this team before the first snap. End of season, hello top 10 draft pick.
So there you have it. My initial hunch says 5-11. When I break it down, I get 8-8. I think I'll go with my initial hunch. See, it all makes sense when you break it down scientifically. Oh yeah, FIRE MILLEN!!

| I didn't get a chance last week to write about my thoughts on the upcoming NFL draft. It's over now but I'll still write my thoughts on the picks. First off, I agree with picking Calvin Johnson with the first pick. He's valued as the best player in the draft so you really can't pass up on that. However, picking up Drew Stanton with the second pick was sheer Millen stupidity, something we know a lot about here in Detroit.
The team has so many pressing needs. They themselves said offensive line, and linebackers are need areas. So they draft a QB who won't fill any immediate needs and will ride the bench for a couple years. What makes this pick even worse is that Justin Blalock, Arron Sears, Tony Ugoh, Ryan Kalil, David Harris, Justin Durant and Paul Posluszny were all still available and will make immediate impacts on their teams. The Lions O-line and linebackers will continue to suck ass. John Kitna was sacked 63 times! That is horrible and unacceptable. Having Roy Williams and Calvin Johnson flanking won't matter when Kitna is on his ass most of the game.
Picking a QB then was pointless. Stanton won't play. With McCown gone, that leaves Orlovsky as the backup. He's only had 17 snaps under center and that was all his rookie year. So they'll have to sign a free agent to backup Kitna. Just plain stupid.
We all know the Lions will have a top 10 pick in next years draft. They should have just waited to draft a QB then. There are some great QB's next year. Brian Brohm will likely go No. 1. Then there's John David Booty, Chad Henne, Matt Flynn and Eric Ainge. Damn, I'm sick of Millen.
On a side note, I'm excited to watch the Patriots next season. I can't believe all the moves they made. Tom Brady and Randy Moss. Wow, it's going to be crazy in bean town. Lucky bastards!

| Did anyone catch this over the weekend? In order to promote their new video game God of War II, Sony held a media junket with topless models, and a decapitated goat. Photos of this event are in full glory in the latest issue of its Playstation magazine. Almost all issues were pulled but many have already been mailed to subscribes. I imagine once it arrives, more pics, like this one, will hit the Internet.

Here's a clip from an article I read: "The article, based on a Sony Press
release, shows more vivid pictures from the event under headlines such
as Topless Girls! and Flesh Eating?
It asks readers how far they would go to get hold of Sony's next-generation console, the PlayStation 3.
'How
about eating still warm intestines uncoiled from the carcass of a
freshly slaughtered goat? At the party to celebrate God Of War II's
European release, members of the Press were invited to do just that . .
.'"

| So you want to know what happened to my neighbor Bob and his ex-girlfriend. Wow, was that ever the saga. I don't even know that I can do a worthy recap. I suggest you go back and read previous entries but I'll try anyway.
Now, the short of it is, Trev, that Bob is now living in Texas. He and his girlfriend had broken up and he moved there to be near his family. He's been working and sober, at least since the last time I saw Bob which was July of 2005. So it has been a long while. I'd like to think, and hope, that Bob has been doing well since. I may even look him up and find out for sure.
For those that don't know, Bob was my next-door neighbor. He was a really nice and friendly guy. He just loved talking to people and being around people. He also loved the booze and porn way too much. Bob was an alcoholic in a rocky relationship with his girlfriend of eight years. He was also unemployed so he had plenty of time for his vices. Anyway, things with his girl were so rocky and he was so depressed about not working, that he looked elsewhere for companionship. He started meeting with a girl he met online. Then he eventually started getting hookers over to his house. Although, I don't remember if I mentioned that in my original posts. Oh well, it was a big, dramatic mess. You can see why I just can't recap it all. Too much stuff went on. Anyway, I feel for Bob and hope his life has turned around and he's doing well.
